Middle School memory:

Q1. Where is Jesus now?

A. He is in heaven sitting at the right hand of His Father.

Q2. What does it mean that He is sitting at God’s right hand?

A. This means that God has given Him authority over all of heaven and earth.

Q3. Why has God given all authority to Christ?

A. So that He may rule and protect His people on earth.

Q4. What else does Jesus do for us?

A. He prays for us constantly.

Q5. Is Jesus with us on earth as He promised?

A. Yes, He is always with us through His Holy Spirit.

Q6. Will Jesus come again?

A. He will come in great glory to judge the living and the dead.

High School memory:

Q1. Who is the Holy Spirit?

He is the third person of the blessed Trinity, one in essence with the Father and the Son. (Acts 5:3, 4)

Q2. How have you received the Holy Spirit?

He has been given to me by God the Father, for Christ’s sake, to regenerate me, lead me into the truth, comfort me, and abide with me forever. (John 16:13, 14)

Q3. How do you receive these benefits of the Holy Spirit?

Only as a living member of the church which Christ himself gathers, defends, and preserves in the true faith. (1 Thessalonians 1:4, 5)

Memory Work for December 3

Middle School Memory Work:

Q1. Did Jesus remain in the grave?

A. No, He arose from the dead on the third day.

Q2. Why could death no longer hold Jesus?

A. He paid for all our sins and so had broken the power of death.

Q3. Did the risen Christ remain on earth?

A. No. After forty days He ascended into heaven.

Q4. What does the resurrection of Christ mean for us?

A. It means that Christ will raise us up, for death will have no power over us.

Q5. What does the ascension of Christ mean for us?

A. It means that He is praying for us, sends us His Spirit, and will take us to meet Him in heaven.

High School Memory Work:

1. Did Christ remain under the power of death?

Indeed not, for on the third day He was raised for our justification, assuring us of complete victory over sin, death and hell. (Romans 4:24, 25)

2. Where is Christ now?

He ascended into heaven and continues there for our sake, until He comes again to judge the living and the dead. (Acts 3:20, 21)

3. But is He not with us until the end of the world?

As God He remains with us in his power, grace and Spirit, but his human nature remains in heaven until He shall come again at the end of the ages.

4. What comfort do you derive from Christ’s ascension?

Because He has ascended, I believe that He always prays for His people, rules over all things, and is preparing a place in His eternal kingdom for all who love and serve Him. (John 14:3)

5. What comfort do you derive from his coming again?

In all my sorrows and trials I am assured that He will come again to punish his enemies and take me with all his people into everlasting blessedness. (2 Thessalonians 1:6, 7)

Middle School Memorization:

Q1. Why was our Savior humbled?

A. He took the guilt of our sin upon Himself.

Q2. How was He humbled?

A. He left heaven’s glory to suffer and die for us.

Q3. When did Christ suffer?

A. He suffered all the days of His life on earth.

Q4. Where did He suffer the most?

A. In the Garden of Gethsemane and on the cross.

Q5. Why was He crucified?

A. He was crucified to bear the curse of God against our sin.

Q6. What moved Christ to suffer so much?

A. He suffered because He loved His Father and He loved His people.

High School Memorization:

Q1. How did God’s only-begotten Son become man for our salvation?

He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, thus taking to himself our human nature, both body and soul, yet without sin. (Luke 1:35)

Q2. What did Christ suffer?

All his days on earth, but especially towards the end of his life, Christ bore for us the wrath of God against sin. (1 Peter 3:18)

Q3. Why did Christ have to die on the cross?

By this death, in which Christ was rejected by both God and man, he took the curse of sin from us upon Himself. (Gal. 3:13)

Q4. Since Christ died for us, why must we still die?

Our death is no longer a payment for sin, but rather a dying to this sinful life and an entering into eternal life. (Phil. 1:23)

This means that he suffered all the terrors of being forsaken by God, so that in my greatest temptations I may be assured that God for Christ’s sake will never forsake me. (Matt. 27:46)

A. God sent His Son to be born as a baby in Bethlehem.

Q2. Was Jesus truly man?

A. Yes, He became like us in everything except sin.

Q3. Was He still God?

A. Yes, He was both God and man in one person.

Q4. Why is He called Jesus?

A. He saves His people from their sins.

Q5. Why is He called Christ?

A. He was sent by God and anointed with the Holy Spirit.

Q6. What was the work of Christ?

A. He was sent to be our Chief Prophet, our only High Priest, and our Eternal King.

Q7. Why are you called a Christian?

A. Because I belong to Jesus Christ who bought me with His blood.

High School Memory Work:

1. Who is the Savior sent by God?

The only Savior is God’s eternal and only-begotten Son, sent into this world in the fullness of time. (Gal. 4:4)

2. Why is He called Jesus?

Because He alone saves his people from all their sins. (Matt. 1:21)

3. Why is He called Christ, that is, “the Anointed One?”

Because He was set apart by the Father and anointed with the Holy Spirit to be our chief prophet, our only high-priest and our eternal king.

4. Why, then, are you called a Christian?

Because through Christ I have received the anointing of the Holy Spirit and therefore am called by God to be a prophet, priest and king. (Acts 11:26)

5. Why is He called our Lord?

Because He bought us with his blood, shed on the cross, and so has made us his own possession. (I Cor. 6:20)
